ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Nuclear Criticality Safety
- Have analyzed storage, transportation, and process operations of various fissile solutions, dry compounds, organics, and metals.
- Currently a qualified analyst and qualified reviewer, performing complete criticality safety analyses for the Y-12 Plant Process Based Restart. These
evaluations involve analysis of many forms of material using a variety of resources, including KENO V.a computer calculations.
- Conducted complete criticality safety analyses of various operations in the cascade, storage, and recovery areas of the Portsmouth Gasseous Diffusion
Plant.
- Performed intense criticality accident scenario evaluations using probabilistic risk assessment methods, as part of the SAR Update Program for the
Building 9212 complex at the Y-12 Plant.
Safety Analysis and Transportation
- Managed a project for quantification and selection of key accident scenarios for the Safety Analysis Update Program for the Building 9212 Complex at
the Y-12 Plant. This work included process safety analysis of many chemical processing systems, using process hazard analysis and fault tree
methodologies.
- Have also been involved in a risk assessment of radiation dose from liquid wastes at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
- Qualified shipper of radioactive materials. Made numerous shipments of radioactive samples, fuel specimens, and waste from the Bettis Atomic Power
Laboratory.
Waste Handling Operations
- Worked for the DOE Pantex Plant on shipment and disposal of radioactive mixed waste and TRU waste at the Hanford Site.
- Led a study of storage and transportation options available for handling a liquid radioactive waste stream at ORNL.
- Characterized wastes for radionuclides and hazardous constituents.
- Developed and implemented a gamma spectrometry system for analysis of packaged wastes.
Material Accountability
- Prepared nuclear material control and accountability course work for training security inspectors at the DOE Central Training Academy.
- Collected experimental nuclear instrument data at Y-12 for an arms control verification program and designed computer software for analysis and
presentation of data.
Radiological Controls
- Have a comprehensive understanding of standards in radiation and contamination controls at DOE sites.
- Have written many verbatim-compliance procedures for radiological operations.
